The Affiliate Spanish Language School (ASLS) in Madrid has been teaching Spanish to foreigners for over twenty-five years. School Location
The school is found in the heart of Madrid’s “Writers’ District” a special place where Quixote was conceived and born. This was a meeting place for writers, actors and the socialites of the Austrias district – the creative forces behind the Spanish Golden Century.
The School
The building/palace has a lot of attractive features and good vibrations, which makes the environment ultra-conducive to learning and enjoying life.
Some examples of the attractive features are the high ceilings, vibrantly colored walls, hardwood floors, wood trim, natural light throughout, and a breathtakingly beautiful staircase at the entrance. The school has fourteen classrooms that all have audio/video connections. The maximum number of students per group class is ten, but the average is five to seven. With that said, you are guaranteed to receive personal attention from each Spanish language teacher in every class. Persons with mobility challenges have access to classrooms and the overall school facility. Technology
The school incorporates computer-based learning activities as well as interactive audio-visual learning tools. For a fee, students can make international phone calls or faxes from the school. Students can also buy international phone cards at the school at a discounted price. There is a printer that can be used by all students. Close by, students will not have a problem finding Internet cafes. One can expect to pay ~ 1.50 euros per hour at a local Internet cafe. Cultural and Social Learning Activities
The cultural program takes place in the afternoon, after Spanish classes. This program forms an integral part of the Spanish immersion experience. The objective of the cultural program is to give the students a broad vision of Madrid, its inhabitants, and culture. You are sure to see, do and experience a lot! Internship Opportunities in madridThe overall goal of this internship program is twofold. First, the students will improve their knowledge and skill of the Spanish language. Second, students will work for a company in Madrid to gain professional experience in today’s international workplace and form international networks for possible future business opportunities. Students will be placed in companies according to their abilities, interests and field of study and/or professional experience. Students who participate in the program must be functionally fluent, responsible, culturally sensitive, willing to work hard and able to work independently. Course Summary
To be selected as an ASLS, the school must offer classes that primarily focus on developing the students' communicative skills. Before departure, students will take a written Spanish level test and receive course confirmation documents and homestay family information.
Intensive and Super-Intensive: These courses are guaranteed to achieve excellent language results, combined with free time. All levels, all year long. Four (Intensive) and Six (Super-Intensive) lessons day, in a group per week.
Absolute beginners should only start on the first and third Monday of each month. Students with previous knowledge can start every Monday.
Groups are required to arrive on Sundays and airport pick up is included in the price. The school bus will bring the group directly to the school, where they will have a short orientation. Some groups come with specific objectives, Spanish content they want to learn. This is no problem. The school staff can design and tailored a specific program to me the needs of the group. There are over ten Spanish language teachers at our ASLS in Madrid. All of the teachers at our ASLS hold university degrees and have successfully completed a rigorous training course that prepares them to teach Spanish to foreigners.
From day one, students will receive Spanish classes with clear and concise objectives. As you learn more and move forward, you will set and meet certain established goals. You will see your progression and will be able to measure it. In addition, many of the teachers have presented their work at conferences, contributed to publications, and written successful Spanish course books. The school reports that the average age of the students is 24 to 28, although often there are students as young as 17 and as old as 75. After you have completed your Spanish immersion experience, you will be asked to fill out a satisfaction questionnaire to critique your teachers, homestay family and overall classroom experience. Prior to departure, students must pay a $99 enrollment fee and deposit to reserve a seat. All homestay accommodations (to live with a native family) start on Saturdays and end on Sundays.
